When the republic governement of china had the power, they messed up many things; the land reform was taken too slow and it takes a long time before they react to the attack of the japanese. (too busy to fight with people from own country?) That is why they lost the war against the communists. (people dont believe them anymore.) And then they must flee to Taiwan. What does it matter when nobody want them even if they are the earlier governement of china. The communists on the other hand have taken full control of the china MAINLAND. (even with brutality, but they have shown that they are more skilled in ruling a country than the governement which fled to taiwan.)And for democracy and human rights; It is easier too rule a small island with democracy than one of the biggest country in the world. Today if china changes to democracy, what should china then become? a second russian? (Before I forgot, the people in russian today are not "very happy" about the change.) There are also many problems in a democratic country too. (I am sure you know that if you watch news on tv.)
For the economie I must say that the central planning system of the communism is not very good for economie. (That is why china MAINLAND try to change to free market system today, with some positiv results , wont you agree?) Secondly when the national governement flee to Taiwan, the economic situation in China MAINLAND is critical, Taiwan on the other hands can build up its own economic system with the help of western countries. (USA helps Taiwan, guess why?) China mainland must build its economie by itself. (little help from USSR, but USSR has own economic problems).
And china MAINLAND has always tried to stop contact of Taiwan with other countries because they dont want Taiwan to become independent.(Nothing against the people there)
I still think the "one country, two system" is a good model for Taiwan. What do Taiwan really want? (stay as a tool of USA against people with the same blood and independence with war?)

Before I forgot, could you tell me how old you are? I am 17.
