The System Engineers will provide the highest level of systems support in the organization. System Engineers are required to be extremely technically with analytical thinking processes. Determination of a Senior Engineer designation will be made with experience and education.
Responsibilities:
Provides 2nd level troubleshooting and repair via technical phone support to Resellers & End Users
Learn and understand customer base and the functional purpose of the network
Experience with the design and integration of LAN/WAN systems using VSAT technologies, and WAN IP routing for voice, data, and video
Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer networking requirements into hardware and software specifications
Working knowledge of Virtual Private Networking, DHCP, and static / dynamic routing
Performs specialized duties in support of Network planning, installation, testing, and training of customer and network support personnel in the use of hardware (router, switches, gateways, etc) and applicable software
For new installations and facilities, participates with Service Technicians for proper installation of network raceway, and cable runs
Participates in equipment installation, testing and evaluation to ensure proper operation and compatibility with hardware, software and operating systems
Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems
Knowledge of firewall technologies, proxy servers, DMZ technologies, UNIX, Windows NT/2000/XP, and IP based networking protocols
Responsible for monitoring and enhancing performance of networked systems and software, hardware and storage components
Network engineering domain expert responsible for the design, development and implementation of a state-of-the-art solution for monitoring networks to capture availability/performance/capacity planning metrics
Responsibilities could include:
Acquisition, accountability, installation, operations, and maintenance voice and video systems, including administrative and secure phone systems, cell phones, pagers, and other wireless devices, the acquisition and distribution of calling cards, and all associated services
Plans, evaluates, and/or coordinates the installation of local and/or remote voice communications equipment such as terminals, modems, video conferencing units, facsimiles, pagers, and voice and electronic mail systems
Perform satellite transponder loading and link budget analyses
Depending on specific position knowledge of earth station and associated satellite monitoring/test equipment, Identifies and recommends solutions for smooth continuing operation of network as capacity needs change
Requirements:
Bachelor’s or Masters degree in computer science or a related field.
Minimum of 5 years in System Engineering role
Familiarity with COTS hardware to include routers, switches, multiplexers, CSU/DSUs, cables and RF H/W to include C/Ku Band transceivers. Must have knowledge of TCP/IP, VOIP, ATM, T1, Voice, Video, and RF/Satellite links.
Requires hands-on integration and testing experience to include installation and configuration of Cisco Routers, Switches and IOS, ACL & NAT, knowledge of VLAN, VPN, E & M Signaling, FXS/FXO, and PLAR and have knowledge of protocol analyzers and troubleshooting utilities/tools
