The Council on East Asian Studies at Yale University (http://www.yale.edu/ycias/ceas) seeks an Administrative Associate with well-developed writing and administrative skills to provide administrative and fiscal support to Japan-related programs.
· Design, implement, and maintain Japan-related Council programs; liaison with faculty, students, other Yale entities, and external contacts to review current programs and develop new initiatives.
· Prepare and monitor budgets for Japan program, prepare financial reports, compile annual reports, assist in developing and maintaining systems for financial reporting.
· In conjunction with Council Manager, coordinate and implement events such as lecture series, film series, conferences, and workshops.
· Support faculty efforts in preparation of proposals and grant applications.
· Develop and edit Council publications and web site in coordination with Council Manager.
· In conjunction with Council Manager, coordinate and implement University Asian development initiatives.
· Coordinate with Director of Undergraduate Studies to administer and serve as Registrar for the East Asian Studies BA Program.
· Coordinate Japan visiting scholars program.
· Administer Council grants, fellowships, and postdoctoral program in coordination with Council Manager.
· May assign and oversee the work of clerical staff and students.
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and a minimum of one year administrative and financial experience overseeing a comparable organizational unit, initiating comparable programs. Computer proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs is essential (familiarity with both IBM and Mac OS a plus). Facility with Japanese language, knowledge of East Asian cultures and protocols, and travel / work / study in Japan is highly desirable.
