Nature of Work: Research and Development
1. Microwaves field:
Design and development of broad-band feeds for 12mt Radio Telescope being built at RRI, which is proposed to cover the frequency range from 500MHz to 8GHz. The antenna system designed is a Cassegrain antenna system having parabolic primary reflector of 12mt dia and hyperbolic secondary reflector. Broad band feeds designed should have a good impedence match (or VSWR), low cross-polarization and radiation patterns of constant beamwidth and pattern symmetry in both E-plane and H-planes over a wide range of frequencies.
* Developed and and characterized the following feeds:-
(a) Dual polarized Quadruple-ridged circular horn for
frequency range (500-1500)MHz.
(b) Dual polarized C-band (4-8)GHz Compact corrugated
horn.
* Tested various antennas for required specifications
by measuring Return loss, VSWR and radiation
pattern.
* Desgined impedence transformers like tapered
transmission lines to match the antenna impedence
to the 50-ohm co-axial line impedence.
* Developed a set up for Antenna Radiation Pattern
measurements in the frequency range of 500MHz to
8GHz .
* Designed and developed a Log-periodic antenna (500-
5000)MHz frequency range for using as a transmitting
source for the radiation pattern measurements.
2. RF field:
* Involved in the design & development of the C-band
(4-8 GHz) Receiver system for the 12mt Radio
Telescope. Tested the various stages of the
receiver for the required performance.
* Characterized thef various RF modules : Mixers,
Power Dividers, Filters, RF amplifiers,
Low Noise Amplifiers for the C-band receiver system.
* Designed and fabricated various micro-strip
RFmodules like amplifiers, filters, impedence
matching networks, directional-couplers and hybrids
using Eagleware's Genesys-7.5, software for design
and simulation of RF circuits.
* Familiarity with GPIB programming in C. For a given
project wrote programs to control the instruments:-
Vector Voltmeter and Spectrum Analyser.
* Familiar with LABView software. Wrote programs in
LABView to control the instruments through GPIB.
