CAREER DEVELOPMENT
Oct 93 - present Research Associate
in Digital Silicon Processing (DSiP) Laboratories,
Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering,
The Queen's University of Belfast (QUB), U.K.

* To design and develop novel VLSI architectures for
standards conversion and slow motion systems in conjunction
with BBC and Snell & Wilcox. Two chips have been designed:
(a) a low power 64-point FFT containing 131k gates (foundry
VLSI Technology), and (b) a Corner Turning Memory (foundry
Eurochip).

The work has involved starting from the design specification
with Snell & Wilcox engineers, architectural design,
describing designs in hardware description language,
simulation, schematic entry, automatic and manual place &
route of the layout, design verification, and design
sign-off with the foundry vendors (including VLSI
Technology). This job required close liaison with the
project partners and demanded good team working skills and
the ability to work under pressure.

The first-time-right FFT chip has been incorporated into
future generations of Snell & Wilcox's world leading
standards conversion system using Phase Correlation
technology.

* Creation of parameterised hardware description language
generators for the automated design and synthesis of FFT
cores based on the use of hierarchical synthesisable VHDL
libraries for rapid design of FFT processors.

PATENT Application for the parameterised FFT.

* Consultancy with Integrated Silicon Systems (ISS) Ltd for
defining high performance FFT architectures for ASIC and
FPGA devices. Sucessfully delivered a 128-point FFT to a
research centre in Korea.

Aug 90 - Sept 91 Engineering Assistant in Manufacturing Engineering
Department in Chartered Electronics Industries Ltd (CEI),
Singapore.

Work involved testing Teleview project, graphics card,
modem and proFAX cards, and PC motherboards and . The job
also required liaison between the company's departments.
This included implementing the test according to
specification, training of the operators and liasing with
engineers from quality assurance department.

EDUCATION
Aug 93 - Dec 1997 PhD "VLSI Systems for Video FFT Applications"
The Queen's University of Belfast (QUB), U.K.

Oct 91 - Jul 93 BEng (Hons) First Class in Electrical and Electronic
Engineering.
The Queen's University of Belfast (QUB), U.K.

Jun 88 - Jun 90 Diploma in Electronics Engineering.
French Singapore Institute, Singapore.

1981 - 1987 Secondary Methodist School (A.C.S.), Malaysia.
1986 - 1987 STPM (equivalent to 5 GCE 'A' level).
1984 - 1985 SPM (equivalent to 9 GCE '0' level)

SKILLS
5 years experience in DSP chip design from design specification until
sign-off which involved using VHDL and ELLA hardware description languages,
Synopsys tools, Cadence and Compass Automation tools for integrated chip
designs, etc.

Computer Languages: C, Assembly, Pascal and Basic programming.
