JOB DESCRIPTION
· Assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care
· Participate in the teaching program of the unit.
· Act as a mentor to and facilitate orientation of all new staff and members of the unit.
· Establish and maintain effective communication with all disciplines to the patients and relatives.
· Provide appropriate care to adult and pediatric patients.
· Processing and interpretation of arterial blood gas samples.
· Assist in tracheostomy insertion and maintain proper care.
· Assist and prepare equipment needed for endotracheal insertion.
· Perform intercostals chest drain/tubes removal with caution.
· Take care and facilitate recovery of post operative cardiac-thoracic surgery
· patients ( CABG, valve repair/replacement, ASD/VSD closure).
· Has working knowledge of hemodynamic monitoring:
a) Assist in the insertion of arterial CVP, ICP and Swan Ganz.
b) Monitoring of CVP, ICP, Abdominal Pressure and Cardiac Output studies.
· Record and interprets 12 lead ECG.
· Identify and intervene appropriately for lethal arrhythmias.
· Has working knowledge of different monitors, defibrillators and pacemakers.
· Performs venipuncture and arterial stab for routine sampling.
· Establish peripheral intravenous lines for adult and pediatric patients.
· Has knowledge of the different drugs used in ICU and able to calculate drug dosages accurately (Dopamine, Dobutamine, Epinephrine, noradrenalin, GTN, Amiodarone, Lignocaine, nipride).
· Has wide knowledge of neuro-surgical patient care and applies appropriately to:
a) Care of head injury patients.
b) Management of multiple traumas.
c) Use and interpretation of Glasgow Coma Scale.
d) Recognition of increased ICP.
e) Post operative elective surgery needs ventilation and close monitoring.
· Assist in the performance of exchange transfusion.
· Has working knowledge and experience on hemofiltration and peritoneal dialysis (SCUF, CVVH, and CVVHDDF).
· Ensure that all documentation is completed accurately and legibly.
· In service training sponsor by nursing education to the ICU-CCU staff.
· Rotated to CCU and experience as CCU nurse.
· Assumes Charge Nurse duties on a rotation basis.
