Nurse Assistant§ The nurse assistant / caregiver is a member of the health team whom assist the professional nurse in providing patient care. He / She is responsible for carrying out assignments as delegated by the professional nurse, works under close supervision. Responsibility for handling and serving patients in a manner conductive to their safety and comfort. Adhering to instructions issued by a nurse in charge, and adhering to established methods and techniques in conformance with recognized standards. Providing maximum patient care services within limits defined by assigned tasks: assist with admissions, transfer and discharge of patients. Answers patient signals, give or assist patient with complete, partial or tub bath, and give oral care. Comb patient’s hair, give AM and PM care. Bed making – close, open, post – operative, oxygen. Serve and collect food trays, feed and / or assist patient with his / her meals, serve and remove bedpans and urinals, collect urine and fecal specimens. Body mechanics: assisting patients to getting in or out of bed, turning and moving patient in bed, assisting patients into and out of wheelchairs, assisting patients on to and off a stretcher. Administer enemas, assist with post mortem care, accompany patient to operating room, x-ray and other department. Clean equipment to be returned to C.S.R., fill and apply ice bag or collar, assist with pre and post –operative nursing care of patients, measure foley catheter drainage. Sitz bath after instruction of supervisor or staff nurse, apply cold and / or warm moist, unsterile soaks.
