Disaster Management Plan
· Rather than choosing peer-to-peer Replication (Multimaster), we had a one-way replication in HOT mode, which enabled real time switch over of traffic in break down.
· Back up and recovery of the database. This includes taking back up on tape drives. Also recovering/restoring the files through operating system. Maintaining the backup schedules for daily backup, weekly backup and monthly backup for both logical as well as physical backups.
· Configuring database in Archive log mode.
· Developed Stand-By database mode for the sudden crash or any other kind of disaster or hardware crash. Stand-by was always kept in managed recovery mode.
· Worked on minimizing the downtime of the server. Estimating the required down time for server to be up.
Database Audit
· Auditing the database. For this developed scripts.
· Detailed analysis of logs on day-to-day basis was followed in the company and log cum bug report was generated on the same.
Troubleshooting
· Server Socket Connection was loosing after an inactive period of 20 seconds and there was a repeated error “Database connection with the server could not be established”. The problem was not in the Database connection pooling mechanism but the network was configured such that. As a DBA, we could design a simulator for continuous connections and not a single.
· Resolving Rollback issues, Memory problems, NET8 issues.
Monitoring Framework
· Performance monitoring of the data. This is done through some developed scripts. Analyzing space requirement. Running Utlbstat and Utlestat scripts and generating report.txt for gathering data for tuning.
· Developed script for SGA sizing.
· Developed Deadlock detecting script.
· Developed script for automated HOT backup on WinNT.
Query Optimization
· SQL tuning using SQL TRACE, TKPROF and explain plan. Also using OEM for tuning the SQLs.
· Client had large number of SQL queries with use of Sub queries, which were removed with optimum joins. A detailed analysis was made on the indexing of the database, which resulted into large savings of cost and time
· Frequency of Queries was calculated and we prioritized to optimize the queries with larger weights and frequencies.
Distributed System Development
· Design the model for Distributed system environment with the use of database links (private, public) among five servers and monitor them time-to-time.
· Suggest design for banking network with the use of multimaster as well as snapshot replication.
· Implementing snapshots, materialized view to help data aggregation.
