3. Employment - Current
I am Project Manager: ICG Systems, responsible for all aspects of major projects run within International Colleges Group (ICG). ICG is a wholly owned subsidiary of Educor, itself owned by Naspers. I report directly to the Commercial Director, and in his absence to the CEO of ICG. The company employs 451 staff and has a turnover exceeding R150 million.

In this position I have managed projects in excess of R5 million , covering numerous ventures, from the entire move of our company to new premises (including IT, systems and infrastructure) to the entire management of stores, despatch and goods receiving (24 months, 30 staff) to sophisticated IT and process improvement projects, besides running several of the key departments on a day-to-day basis:
· Core Business Systems (Implementation of a new business system to drive core business functions (Java, 3 Tier Client Server based system)
· Business Process Re-Engineering (Introduction of zero-based budgeting, TOC systems, Kanban systems, extensive use of Game Theory)
· Line Management (Responsible for all store, mail room, despatch and goods receiving functions, stock takes (total value R5mil, variance –worst- 1.5%, total staff approx. 30)
· Associate Companies (Acted as in-house consultant for BPR initiatives of sister companies - within the NASPERS Group)

This responsibility includes ensuring that ICG’s Strategic initiatives are empowered by appropriate project management, guidance of sound business principles and has recently concluded with the re-engineering and deployment of a new Core Business System, designed to facilitate the streamlined assembly of new courses designed for the market. To significantly improve internal efficiencies and extend ICG’s business footprint.

5. Capabilities and Experience:

Strategic Management I have for 3 years been part of ICG’s Strategic Team, ensuring that a business that is highly dependent on process efficiencies and adoption of technology aligns its business and technology initiatives.
General Management Budgeting, recruitment, disciplinary (chairing most disciplinary hearings) , person and department management of a team of 30 direct reports over a two year period.
Project Management I have project managed various sizeable projects (Proudfoot R15 mil, ICG R5mil) involving multi-disciplinary teams operating across divisional boundaries, within time, scope and budget constraints.
Outsource Management 2½ years ago I successfully outsourced ICG’s postal services contract and management, managing this against SLA’s and cost containment.
Business Process Re-engineering I have led, from conception to completion, incremental and green-fields business process and systems redesign initiatives stretching over Printing, Bottling (x2), Mining, Gold Refining, Paint Manufacture, Commerce Applications, Client Facing, and back office educational systems.
Business Analyst Although I am a big picture strategist by choice I believe that success or failure often occurs at the detail level – I have occupied the role of business analyst intermittently over the past 11 years, so as to ensure that the delivered solution actually meets the clients detailed needs.
Systems and Project Management Involvement in the ICG migration from one system to another – 160 000 Intec students to the new system and 60 000 Damelin students across two systems. Earlier at SIMERA I was responsible for the entire calibration of two gas turbine test cells. (Hercules Allison 501 D22A and another pure turbo-jet cell)
Process Facilitation and Business Presentation I have gained substantial experience, over 6 years, of presenting to large and small groups, internal and external to the organisations and at all levels of management and staff. I also have the same degree of experience facilitating BPR sessions and design workshops.
Systems Manager Almost 3 years total responsibility for all of ICG’s project management, and 1¾ years managing Proudfoot projects.
Team Management Throughout my career I have participated in and led both single discipline and cross-disciplinary teams.
Programme Team Leader I have many years experience as a Team Leader . This has stood me in excellent stead when fulfilling a business analyst or project manager role in a technical environment.
Technical Engineering My Mechanical Engineering (and Pr Eng.) background, coupled with an ongoing fascination with engineering problems , has kept me sufficiently up to date with general engineering problem solving and practises.

· Military and aviation history and what we can learn from those that have gone before us.
· Other interests include woodwork, teaching maths and science part time, rock music and surfing.
