Experience
1990-1995 Meclen Breda, NL
System Controller/system designer
The company 'Meclen' was specialized in car-security and localization.
I was responsible for the whole design and implementation of the LAN. I virtually build a network of 25 hosts for a company who only had a typewriter to start with.
Also had some special projects like a direct connection to the one of the biggest insurance companies to transfer about 25.000 car details a year; I visited the senior management of the insurance company several times.
Another example is the design of a GPS (Global Positioning System; a range of US military satellites and GSM localization-system; this in conjunction with Philips Netherlands. This way a stolen car could be tracked throughout Europe via the GSM who delivered the GPS details collected via a special antenna over the GSM network. An additional feature was that we could switch on/off several items in the car remotely, like the horn, lights, etc.
Other key-responsibilities:
. The whole DTP design for brochures, etc.
. Maintaining the LAN
. Bring in new technology concepts
. Train the employees on new techniques
. Single point of contact for the application-programmer
. Commercial contact for the bigger projects.
The company went broke in 1995 due to business-espionage involving a German competitor.
1996-2000 British Telecom Worldwide Amsterdam, NL
Network Controller 'High Speed services'
In August 1996 I Was asked if I would like to work for BT, so went for the job-interview. The next day I was hired. My main responsibility was to monitor and troubleshoot the worldwide commercial networks of BT and Concert, involving IP and Frame-relay.
One of my projects in this time was to design and build an intranet for European Operations; this succeeded with great success so received an award and bonus because the Lloyd's ISO 9001 audit was successful afterwards.
1996-2000 British Telecom Worldwide Amsterdam, NL
Network Management Technician
At my job as a Network Management Technician I started to specialize myself in IP, involving large projects and launches of new services into European Operations. During this period I was extensively trained.
European Operations chose me to attend the two-year lasting management development program (which was quite an honor); European Operations chose people of who they think will be suitable senior managers (see education).
1996-2000 British Telecom Worldwide Amsterdam, NL
Network Management IP Services
In this function I was responsible for 2nd line support on the IP networks (the products were CIP/VPDN/IBS/TiXS/Telfort Tornado/CMIP). Several big projects were also my responsibility, and received another award for the 'CMIP' project.
The other big project was the global venture between BT and AT&T.
Worked close with Cisco for the development of their 'Eureka' and 'IP Manager' system. My other responsibilities included writing (and giving) training to other groups in the organization.
I have traveled throughout Europe for this function.
2000-2001 Novaxess BV Amsterdam, NL
Manager Network Operations & Control Center / Data Operations Manager
In this function I was end-responsible for the Operations part of the Novaxess backbone network and its services (xDSL, Voice, Data, OSS, ISP).
This included 1st, 2nd and 3rd line support on these services (see attached document).
Since this company was a start-up I was heavily involved in Project Management and other functions as ORT Manager and Data Requirement Manager. In these functions I wrote a lot of requirement documents for other departments as well.
