John F. Cotton Hospital is the company hospital of the Philippine's largest electric company, Manila Electric Company (Meralco). It caters to the clinical, medical, and surgical needs of Meralco employees and their families. John F. Cotton Hospital boasts of its world-wide facilities and is considered one of the best company hospitals in the Philippines. Ms. Leaņo worked as a Nurse Trainee. She was assigned in different clinics and stations in various roles and capacities.

Ms. Leaņo worked as an emergency room nurse performing first aid treatment, supplying medications, and assessing and admitting patients. She was assigned in the Heart Station as medical secretary. In the heart station, she was trained to take EKG's, to cut and post ECG results, and to observe the conduction of stress tests. She worked in the EENT clinic in the hospital. She performed color blind and visual acuity tests, took refractions, and assisted doctors during patient consultations and follow-ups.

She was also tasked to assist in the Family Planning Clinic. She conducted health teachings to about 100 women and men of reproductive age regarding pregnancy, artificial and natural birth control methods, and other family planning related matters. She also worked for a dermatologist in the Allergy Clinic. She assisted the dermatologist in electrocautery and patient consultations. She also assisted in scheduling and monitoring appointments in the clinic.

She was assigned in the ward where she worked as a staff nurse. Her primary duties were to receive endorsements from previous shifts, and to perform assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation of patients confined in different medical and surgical cases both in the male and female wards. She created nursing care plans. She made referrals to medical doctors concerning status of patients. She rendered health care teachings to the patients from admission until discharge.

Lastly, she assisted in a number of surgeries in the Operating Room. She took the initiative to orient herself with minor and major instruments. She had the opportunity to practice using auto-claving instruments. She served as nursing assistant to the circulating, suture, and instrument nurses. She evaluated patient status post-op. She also helped prepare patients for the operations by addressing their concerns, responding to their requests and answering their inquiries.
