RESEARCH PROJECTS

“Study Of Comparative Decrease In Contrast Sensitivity With Glare In Senile Cataract Subjects”

This project was done under the guidance of Dr. Srinivas K. Rao, consultant, sankara nethralaya Chennai and Dr. E. Vaithilingam, Principal. Elite school of optometry.
The project was to assess the degradation of contrast sensitivity with glare in senile cataract subjects and to study the comparative decrease in contrast sensitivity
to that of visual acuity with glare in senile cataract subjects. The conclusion was glare testing should be used as a means of evaluating visual status under conditions of glare and must be accepted as an indication for cataract surgery. The decision to refer patients for cataract surgery should be based on the decrease in contrast sensitivity which affects one’s lifestyle rather than visual acuity. Quantifying glare disability helps to substantiate clinical decision in patients who complain of significant visual limitation and yet have reasonably good contrast sensitivity or visual acuity.

 OCULAR MANIFESTATIONS IN HIV CASES

This project was studied under the guidance of Dr. Jyothirmay Biswas. The main aim was to study the incidence of ocular lesions as the first manifestation in HIV individuals. The span of the study was from September 99 to October 99.

 MEASURING THE AMOUNT OF RESIDUAL ACCOMODATION
UNDER CYCLOPLEGIA

This study was carried out under the guidance of Dr.E.Vaithilingam Principal Elite School Of Optometry. It was aimed at estimating the amount of accommodation that is present even after instillation of cycloplegia in about 30 subjects with no other ocular pathologies.

SCHOLASTIC ACHIEVEMENTS

POSTER PRESENTATION - ALL INDIA OPTOMETRY
CONFERENCE

I presented a poster on ”BINOCULAR REFRACTION” at the ALL INDIA OPTOMETRY CONFERENCE during Jan 99.
