Position Title: Medical Advisor
The consultant will be responsible for undertaking activities that will ensure that the acceptance of family planning as part of routine service package has increased. S/he will receive technical supervision from both the COP and the Deputy COP.
Responsibilities:
· Propose and define performance indicators for an effective and efficient implementation of activities and develop a monitoring system to track these indicators
· Take the lead in designing and implementing the strategy that would make family planning become part of the routine health service package
· Link with the various medical, nursing and midwifery associations to ensure effective implementation of the strategy
· Work with medical colleges to ensure family planning becomes part of pre-service training of physicians and with nursing colleges and midwifery schools to update competency-based family planning courses in the curricula
· Lobby with the Professional Regulatory Commission to make questions on planning and reproductive health are included in the board exams for doctors, nurses and midwives
· Improve family planning, sex and fertility awareness content of pre-marriage counseling sessions
· Improve sex and fertility awareness messages of population education program materials
· Improve fertility awareness module in basic family planning training
· Determine need for short-term consultants, prepare scopes of work for these consultants, identify appropriate individuals and prepare needed documents to engage their services
Desired qualifications:
· Medical degree, MPH preferred
· 5-7 years experience working with health professional training organizations or associations, particularly the Philippine Obstetrics and Gynecological Society
· Understanding of family planning issues and the dynamics surrounding the program.
· Experience in the family planning counseling and interpersonal communications skills training program
· Links with Association of Deans of Philippine Colleges of Nursing and with the Association of Philippine Schools of Midwifery, and with medical schools
