MMI and RC for Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH)

Hardware : Motorola Power PC.
Client : LRDE.
Operating System : VxWorks (Target OS), Windows Host.
Software, Libraries : C, Tornado IDE, Motif.
Role : Team member.

Man Machine Interface (MMI) is the interface between operator and Radar. It runs on one of the Power PC processor board sited on VME back plane. It communicates with other processor boards and RADAR through VME bus. To provide graphics X-Server runs on this board. GUI of MMI, which allows operator to interface and control Radar, is developed using Motif Library.

MMI also consists of a BARCO Monitor, Keyboard and Tracker Ball, configuration files and font files required for X-Server are stored in on board flash memory.

Radar Controller (RC) controls and monitors entire Radar system periodically. It runs on the Power PC processor board sited on VME back plane. It communicates with other processor boards of RADAR through VME bus and through RS422, ARINC 429, and MIL-1553B with other sub-systems.


BARCO Monitor Communication

Hardware : Motorola Power PC.
Client : LRDE.
Operating System : VxWorks (Target OS).
Software : C.
Team Size : Two.

BARCO monitor has 12 hard Keys, 6 on both sides. These buttons can be used as inputs for MMI. BARCO Monitor notifies inputs of these buttons to MMI processor through serial port RS422.

MMI has to follow BARCO interconnection protocol to communicate and get events from BARCO monitor. This BARCO Monitor Communication module creates the session, sends SKY command for getting events. This module also has error handling mechanism like handling timeouts and if session expires, it will automatically create session.

Flash File System:

Hardware : Motorola Power PC.
Client : LRDE.
Operating System : VxWorks (Target OS).
Software : C.
Team Size : Single.

Power PC processor board (MMI processor & RC processor) has on-board flash, which can be used to store binary-boot-image of VxWorks OS, default configuration files for Radar and font files for X-Server. This flash memory can also be used to store crucial operational information of the Radar. Responsibility of this module is to Format the flash, create file system and mount it. Tools used are ESP for VxWorks provided by Radstone.

Configuring Tool (FTP on Target, GUI Editor on Host):

Hardware : Motorola Power PC.
Client : LRDE.
Operating System : VxWorks (Target OS).
Software : C.
Team Size : Single.

Default configuration files for RC and MMI are stored on the flash memory. RC and MMI use this file to load the default configuration at booting time. This file cannot be modified by operator but can be modified off-line by experts in the field and loads it on to RC and MMI boards. Responsibility of this module is to allow downloading the file from RC & MMI to host system, modify it and upload back to RC & MMI. This module has two major parts.
 FTP server that runs on target board (RC and MMI) that allows downloading and uploading of configuration files.
 GUI module, which allows modifying downloaded configuration file graphically.


ARINC429:

Hardware : Condor Engineering(Carrier Board Card).
Client : LRDE.
Operating System : VxWorks (Target OS).
Software : C.
Team Size : Two.

Using ARINC429 (Condor Engineering) Drivers, developing the application by using the Interrupts Enable. Data acquisition all the channels by using loop back later by external communication.

Offline Replay:

Client : LRDE, DRDO, Bangalore..
Operating System : Windows2000.
Software : Win32 API and OpenGL for Windows.
Team Size : Two.

Offline Replay software is for replaying the data that is being collected during actual mission. During real time operation all radar data is being logged and the same can be retrieved for further analysis after the flight. Preliminary analysis being done is to see the data how it was detected by radar in air. For this purpose the logged data is replayed offline using this software.
