This hospital has an advanced ocular trauma department with state of the art equipment and techniques. The training programme included diagnosing and treating patients presenting to the emergency department and trauma clinic. I performed emergency day call duty to attend each and every patient with history of ocular trauma either blunt or penetrating; either anterior or posterior segment and evaluate the patient and decide the appropriate line of management. Training included assisting and performing corneo-scleral wound repairs; corneal wound repairs; scleral wound repairs; globe exploration; hyphaema evacuation; lens aspiration through limbal and pars plana approach; lid laceration repairs. I also did my formal training in vitreo-retina under the guidance of Dr. Tarun Sharma to perform sclerotomies and to do pars plana lensectomy and anterior vitrectomy.

I have participated in regular academic activities and presented in weekly post graduate teaching classes and other international meetings with visiting scientists.

I was a fellow with Dr. Jyotirmoy Biswas and during my training I assisted Dr. J. Biswas in handling the patients attending the Uvea clinic. The OPD included all the variety of patients seen at tertiary referral care centre. I developed interest in HIV patients with ocular lesions and managed those patients under his guidance. I also learnt the rational and safe use of immunosuppressive agents under his able guidance. I performed anterior chamber paracentesis and had given intravitreal and subconjunctival injections. I have participated and presented articles of interest in Uvea Departmental meetings. I have attended all the conferences of ocular immunology and inflammation. I am the member of Uveitis Society of India.

I attended general and specialty ophthalmology outpatient departments. As a resident I had the opportunity to perform surgical procedures such as dacryocystectomies, dacryocystorhinostomies, incision and curettage for chalazion, squint surgeries and extra capsular cataract extraction with intraocular lens implantation.

Community Ophthalmology

Posted at Rural Eye Hospital and Community ophthalmic eye care centre ( Annexe Hospital), Handled OPD and theatre work and participated in regular camps conducted by the hospital.
