Title:: Food & Drug Management System Place : for Food & Drug Administration, Mumbai, Maharashtra State
Role: Project Manager - As the project was developed 2 ½ years earlier, after due time, some of the requirements were changed and client wanted to add some more features / functionalities. Requirement Analysis and modification in the existing system w.r.t. database as well front-end objects - was studied and a next enhanced version was prepared with frequent interactions with the client / users. Heading the team of 5-7 developers.

Project Details: The project was already developed in Oracle 7.3 as a back-end with HP-Unix 10.3 for Food & Drug Administration, Maharashtra State, India. The application has been installed at all divisional places of Maharashtra State. The overall project consists of 25 modules, 300+ Forms, 200+ Reports, 450+ Tables and combined data of 12 GB.

Title: Personal Management System – Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd ( MTNL )
Place Mumbai.
Role: Project Manager - As the project was developed 4 years earlier, after due time due to change of business policy, client wanted to add some additional functionalities. Requirement Analysis and modification in the existing system w.r.t. database as well front-end objects - was studied and a next enhanced version was prepared with frequent interactions with the client / users. Headed the team of 4-5 developers.

Project Details: The project was already developed in Oracle 7.3 as a back-end with HP-Unix 10.2 for Mahanagr Telephone Nigam Ltd ( Telephone Service Provider ), The application has been installed at main office and from all other offices it is maintained through dial up connection. The project consists of 1 major module ( Personal Management System for employee strngth of > 4500 ), 50+ Forms, 120+ Reports, 90+ Tables and combined data of 3GB.

Title: Performance Enhancement Exercise for Loan Operation Center ( LOC )System
Place: Malayan Banking Berhad ( MAYBANK ), Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA
Role: Project Manager – Overall in charge of the performance enhancement exercise and headed a team of 3 specialized consultants in the area of database, network and visual basic. The exercise carried out included the tasks like - study of an application, code walkthrough, analyzing the read/write operations, analyzing the database components for optimal tuning, re-engineering recommendations, presentation of key observations and recommendations with detailed explanations etc.

Project Details: A leading bank in Malaysia - Maybank has deployed an application for LOC for consumer loans. The application is built n FileNet IDIMS 3.5 as imaging & workflow engine and Oracle 8.0.6 as database. The front-end is VB 6. The application allows the braches to enter the details of the application and gives an automatic approval for the loan. Server platform is AIX and OS is AIX 4.3. The application running on approx. 150 branches. Maybank has a plan to introduce the application to more 150 branches. The application has a few performance bottlenecks. The scope of the work for the project included – On-site assessment of current application and database, Network Study and assessment, Observations and recommendation to improve the application / system / network performance.

Platform: Oracle 8 / Visual Basic 6 / FILENET / AIX Server

Highlights: The functionality of an application can be divided in to two streams like – Back-end jobs / programs and front-end screens. Back-end jobs included background daemon processes running in the AIX server reads the data from the mainframe table and places a request to the mainframe for insertion / updation, document generation package where MS-WORD is called for creating the template - using Macros, Mainframe calls uses the MQ Series to interface with the AIX server for data, programs written in Pro*C for Cron jobs. Front-end screens included the main modules like Branch Front End Screens, Automated approval system and Work flow module.

Title: In-house ERP System ( Material Management ( STORES ), Personal & Admin, Production Planning & Control, Provisioning & Procurement, Explosive Handling )
Place: Naval Armament Depots ( INDIAN NAVY )
From 15-6-2000 to till date
Role: Project Leader / Project Manager – Entire project consisted approx. 300 forms and 400 reports. Headed a team around 25-28 persons working on the project at various levels for various activities. During and after the development, was engaged in thorough testing activity for the entire product.

Project Details:
This system aims to keep the control on the various activities of Materials like Internal Issue / Receipts and External Issue / Receipts, Deposits, Loans, Annual Inspection & Disposal and other Inventory aspects of the items which are part of the stores. To support this, there were other areas like Production Planning & Control, Personnel & Administration and Provisioning & Procurement - the respective module were also developed where the to/ from linkage was established thus to make a full fledged system. The module will be operational at all Naval Armament Depots across the country. High level of securities using RSA algorithm is the specific requirement as the whole system should be treated fully confidential in terms of its activities and stock positions.

Platform: Oracle 8i / Designer R 6.0 / Developer 2000 ( Forms 6.0 Reports 6.0 ) / Windows NT

Highlights: SRS was already done and required to be re-verified with the users and re-structuring is to be done wherever needed. Major responsibilities include managing / guiding the team, coordinating with the users of various levels at various stages of the system, supervise the development activities, meeting the schedules for various development activities and implementation of the system thereafter. Also performed the tasks like Gap Analysis after extensive client interactions at various levels, Documentation of the SRS Revalidation, Designing Process Model Diagrams, Function Hierarchy Diagrams, Entity Relationship Diagrams, Preparing System Design Document, Application Development, Testing & User Acceptance.

Role: Project Manager – Overall in charge of the entire module. The System was outsourced to the consultants for the development of the module to 20 - 30 developers. Leaded the project for all related activities.

Project Details: System takes care of the entire manufacturing cycle for all the factories and some MIS reports which were required by the Offices. Major modules were like Raw Yard, Factory Materials, Receipts, Procurement, Planning, Scheduling, Production, Inventory, Stores Management etc.

Highlights: Basically the project was conversion of the old system in FoxPro to the Oracle platform from the same consultant with the necessary enhancement. But the problems faced during the implementation were the inadequate knowledge of Oracle in developers team ( since the developers from the consultant were new to the Oracle ), Changes in the working practice in due time - hence many loop holes were found when took the charge of the project implementation. The major job was to uniform the manual practice at all 3 factories and take the end user in to confidence and coordinating with the consultant / developers and guide them to re-arrange the system in order of the actual requirement. Again, since many attempts were already done for the implementation from the consultant side, users had lost the confidence in the system. My job was to bring back their confidence in the system and its performance which was achieved successfully. Supervised the development in accordance with the requirement, quality and time-frame for completion of the different schedules. Reporting was directly made to V P ( Technical ) then. For reporting, YOJANA software was used as a project management tool.

Project Details: Whenever the project is to be executed at factories in terms of the production, to prepare the production schedule, complexity of the project is considered in advance. The complexity varies with respect to its items operation like bending, punching, no. of holes, size of holes, no of bends etc.. There were pre-defined parameters which were passed to the system and user had still flexibility to change the parameters while executing the system and compare the new set of result.

Highlights: The system got to installed at all the locations and the main interfaces was from the Bills of Material database. The top management immediately comes to know the overall complexity of the project and can plan accordingly their schedule of production etc.

Project Details: Basically the BoM is a root database to the manufacturing activities. The system was operational at 5 different places and care was taken to create & update the transaction internally - in order to maintain the same database at different locations. There were various stages of the Bills of Material and depending on the stages, rights/access were changed in BoM life cycle. Data were transmitted across all the locations as per the requirement of the system.
