RESEARCH EXPERIENCE
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1999 October'11th to till date working in the field of Plant Genetic Engineering under a project awarded by DBT through Indian Institute of Science,
which deals with the standardisation of efficient regeneration and
Agrobacterium mediated genetic transformation protocols for Solanum
melongena being carried out under the guidance of Prof. G. Lakshmi Sita.
Result: High frequency regeneration from all the explants and transformation
with GUS-INT has been standardised and confirmed by molecular analysis.
Presently work is being carried out with lepidopteran specific insect
resistance gene (Bt).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1997-1999 in the field of Plant tissue culture and Transformation This project was awarded by CSIR as
Senior Research Fellowship and carried out under the guidance of Prof.
S. Ignacimuthu. This work dealt with creating Bruchid resistant pigeonpea
plants through Agrobacterium mediated genetic introduction of alpha amylase
inhibitor gene.
Result: Regeneration systems for three pulse crops namely Pisum sativum (pea), Vigna mungo
and Cajanus cajan has been standardised
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1996-1997(6 months)M.Phil project work on Multiple shoot induction and callus regeneration of
Cajanus cajan. at the biotechnology unit of St. Joseph's College,
Tiruchirappalli, India
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1995-1996 Worked as full time research scholar in tissue culture at the biotechnology unit of
St. Joseph's College, Tiruchirappalli, India
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1994-1995(6 months)M.Sc., project work on " The influence of commercial vitamins and growth
regulators on the regeneration of selected plants in vitro"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Technical Expertise
-------------------
* Plant tissue culture
* Agrobacterium- mediated genetic transformation and molecular analysis transgenic
plants (Protein, DNA and RNA isolation, Cloning, PCR, Southern, Northern & Western
blots)
* Biochemical analysis of plants (estimation primary and secondary metabolites)
* Insect culture (pests like Helicoverpa, Callosobruchus etc) and their biological
performance at different conditions
