1999 October Plant Genetic Engineering This project is awarded by DBT
11th to till date through Indian Institute of Science,
which deals with the standardisation
of efficient regeneration and
Agrobacterium mediated genetic
transformation protocols for Solanum
melongena being carried out under
the guidance of Prof. G. Lakshmi Sita.
Result:
High frequency regeneration
from all the explants and transformation
with GUS-INT has been standardised
and confirmed by molecular analysis.
Presently work is being carried out
with lepidopteran specific insect
resistance gene (Bt).

1997-1999 Plant tissue culture This project was awarded by CSIR as
and Transformation Senior Research Fellowship and carried
out under the guidance of Prof.
S. Ignacimuthu. This work dealt with
creating Bruchid resistant pigeonpea
plants through Agrobacterium mediated
genetic introduction of alpha amylase
inhibitor gene.
Result:
Regeneration systems for three pulse
crops namely Pisum sativum (pea), Vigna mungo
and Cajanus cajan has been standardised
