Capital Tower Project:
The Capital Tower one of the tallest buildings (52 Floors) in Singapore has the Intelligent Building Management Systems (IBMS) installed. IBMS controls all the facilities in the building like Fire alarms, UPS, Lifts, HT and LT power, Water, Chillers & ACMV, Security, Car park, PABX, Voice processing, Intelligent Kiosks for facility bookings etc. Also has Video on Demand on the network.The building had plasma screens all over, where one can receive any TV channel which uses Cisco IP/TV software. Apart from above the building has CCTV installed for security purposes which is also a part of IBMS. The network existed had two entities, the building facility management system network and tenants network. A firewall (Checkpoint) was there between the two networks. The network topology wise had two divisions namely the ATM backbone having 155 Mbps fibre optic uplinks (single mode and multi-mode) and Gigabit ethernet network.
The primary objective of the project was to migrate the existing network from Alcatel Xylan switches to Cisco's high-end switches and to tune the network for better performance. Totally about 9 Cisco switches including two core switches (Cisco 6509),seven edge switches (Cisco 4006,Cisco 4003),three remote access servers (Shiva Lan-Rover) for dial-out and dial-in, routers to segregate the networks and about 2000 systems (not including the tenants systems) were deployed.

My Role:
I was one of the team members involved in
1)Designing the future network with Virtual lans for better traffic management.
2)Configuration of Cisco switches, including enabling CGMP for multi-casting.
3)Implementation of the migration.
4)Implementing access-lists in the switches to control the traffic.
5)Tuning of Firewall and performance of the systems.
6)Checking the performance of the applications.

Independently managing the Network centre of the ISP with five network engineers.Configuring Routers and RAS to the need and also monitoring and rectifying E1-R2 dial-up lines,leased lines and modems.Maintaining Web-servers hosted in our centre and also RADIUS, LDAP,Apache, IIS 5.0 and Oracle servers installed in the centre.
Analysis of traffic management through Webtrends Bandwidth analyzer and Visual pulse and MRTG (Multiple Route Traffic Grapher) softwares and looking into upgradation of network, Installation of Firewall servers and VPN installation using Raptor Power VPN software are also part of the job.Since different caching servers are availabe in our network centre, fair knowledge of caching also has been gained.

A Virtual Private Networking has been done for this client interconnecting their branches in Hyderabad,Surat,Bangalore,Cochin and Head office in Chennai.Raptor integrated Power VPN software has been configured for them.They have mobile clients also who login thro’ Raptor mobile client software.All the security policies defined by the client have been configured in the Power VPN cum firewall server.Network to Network connectivity has been established using the site to site Raptor Firewall.
2)Client Name:Stepstone India P Ltd.
For this client instead of a software VPN,Nokia hardware VPN boxes are utilised.VPN is connecting their offices all over India to their office in UK.

Apart from Raptor some expertise on Check point Firewall also has been acquired since few of our clients have installed Check-point.

DUTIES AS MANAGER SYSTEMS IN SEAHORSE INDIA PVT.LTD

Taking care of identification, purchase, installation and maintenance of systems and peripherals for the whole Seahorse group of companies. Heading a team of engineers to achieve the above tasks. Since Seahorse's major business is shipping, thorough knowledge of installation and maintenance of different Email systems has been acquired. Familiar with PCMail (GEMail), Cedex, AT&T access, Comtext, Lotus ccmail through x.25, x.28 dial up and lease lines. Thorough knowledge of Windows 3.1,Windows 3.11 for workgroups, Windows 95 and Windows 98,modem command and access procedures of Internet tcp/ip accounts has been acquired. The group has more than 600 systems through out India.

Bay Container Terminal P Ltd. Madras: File server on Novell 4.1 with 15 Dos/Win 3.11 clients and about 3 Win95/Win98 clients on Windows NT Server. Two Depots which are about 20 Kms. away are connected thro' Dial-up networking using 33.6 Kbps modems. Fully integrated Depot management software is running on Visual FoxPro on windows. EDI link with CEDEX International is operated thro' VPN via INTERNET.CEDEX Server is in California U.S.A.
Marine Container Services Madras:Windows NT Server with about 30 Dos/Win 3.11 clients and 10 Win95/Win98 Clients and we have peer to peer network also between Windows Clients-mail &Telex services are available on network. EDI link to Madras port and EDI to Taipei thro' INET are in use.
Similar network configurations are available in Calcutta ,Cochin and Tuticorin.
Seahorse Ship Agencies P Ltd. Madras: Windows NT Server with about 20 clients. A Proxy server has been installed for accessing Internet and a Novell server is also there on the network. Branches in Bombay, New Delhi, Calcutta and Bangalore have Novell 4.1 servers.
Omega Forwarders P Ltd. involved in Airfreight has a network with the same configuration as in Bay Container Terminal with a Dial-up Cargo tracking system and has offices all over India.
Seahorse Hospitals Ltd. Trichy: File Server P II 300MHz with 256 MB RAM 4*8 GB Hard disk Fast Ethernet on WINDOWS NT 4.0 having about 30 Dos/Win 3.11 clients and 30 Win95/Win98 clients. Hospital Management software in MS-Access front end and Ms-Sql back end is being used. E-mail and Internet on LAN.
When I left Seahorse up-gradation of the above-mentioned networks was going on.They were migrating to Windows NT.
Tristar Container services (Asia) P Ltd. Chennai: IBM P III Windows NT Server running Lotus Domino has been installed recently and Lotus Notes connectivity to its branches was in the process of installation.
