12. PRESENT POSITION HELD : Principal Engineer (Highways)

i) Responsibilities include:

· Incharge of MOSS systems for design of highways, motorways, interchanges, master plan of towns, canals , preparation of Digital Terrain Models.
· Planning and scheduling design activities according to the Contract Terms of Reference using SURETRAK Planning Software.
· Prepare technical proposals for highways and motorways.
· Team Leader for design and planning Highway projects.
· Supervision of results of topographic surveys conducted by latest equipments such as Trimble GPS + Total station, Sokkia Total Stations and leveling instruments.
· Member of the Quality Council for ISO 9001 System Implementation.
· Lead auditor in the Internal quality Audits.
· Coordination meetings with different departments to sort out various problems.
· Meetings with clients and response to their queries.
· Presentation of projects on different forums.
· Quality Assurance of Drawings and Documents

Over 15 years in the design and planning of motorways, highways, rehabilitation of highways, interchanges, intersections, and roadside furniture.

13. SPECIALISED TASKS:

· Incharge of MOSS system software for the last 8 years. Engineering Consultants International (Pvt) Ltd., (ECIL) was the first consultant in Pakistan to purchase MOSS. Has been the first Engineer to specialize this software and then transfer the technology to other colleagues in ECIL. Has complete command in the following MOSS options.

Preparation of all files related to digital terrain model, triangulation & contouring, design, genio, earthworks, drawings, drainage work, protection works, long sections, cross sections, and crossforms.
Interactive graphic horizontal & vertical alignment of all types of roads in plain as well as mountainous areas, particularly interchanges & intersections.
Preparation of plan & profile drawings at any preferable scale using ACAD.
Calculation of areas for embankment protection on slopes, earthwork quantities.
Preparation of longitudinal and x-section of highways, canals, and railways etc.
Preparation of perspective view of the project.
Obtain the elevations, distances and coordinates of pavement edges, shoulders, embankment with reference to the centre line of proposed road.
Preparation of crossform, vertical and horizontal data for the site supervision and construction works.

· Team Leader for Design and Planning Motorways, Highways and Interchanges. Responsible for the following:

Planning and scheduling topographic surveys including Total Station Surveys, GPS Surveys, etc. and verifying the survey results as per the standards developed.
Planning and scheduling Design related works of motorways, interchanges, and major highways.
Quality Assurance of the Documents and Drawings.

14. WORKED IN MALAYSIA:

For Engineering & Environmental Consultants (EEC) as Principal Engineer in one of the most prestigious Motorway in the period 1997-1998. The project was B-15 Putrajaya-Cyberjaya Access Motorway with full access control including 3 interchanges and provision of separate lanes for motorcycles.

It was a fast track project and all the design data was given to the contractor in the MOSS format. The contractor also used Moss at the site thereby introducing a new concept of coordination between the design data and the construction works.

The project area was situated in the rolling terrain. Optimization of the earthworks was done for the motorway by calculating the quantities for the motorway and the interchanges at the preliminary stage and then finalizing it to avoid borrow areas.

Coordination was also done with the different road, railway and Cyberjaya authorities to finalize the horizontal and vertical profile of B-15 motorway.

15. PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE & PROJECTS UNDERTAKEN:

1992-todate:

· Incharge of MOSS systems for design of highways, motorways, interchanges, master plan of towns, canals.
· Horizontal and vertical design of motorways, interchanges, major highways, internal roads of housing complex, highways in hilly and mountainous areas using MOSS software.
· Design of road furniture plans for the traffic signs, road marking, road studs using manual of urban traffic control devices (MUTCD).

Major Projects in this period included

q Feasibility & detailed design of Islamabad - Peshawar Motorway (155 km). In the original design, there were 5 interchanges, 21 flyovers, 3 major river bridges, bridges on streams and canals and minor culverts. The design of project included service and rest areas, toll plazas, weigh bridges, communication facilities, illumination of interchanges, underpasses and cattle creeps etc.
Mott MacDonalds (MMIL) were the associates in the design of the project. Worked with MMIL for 10 months to complete the project.
q Feasibility and detailed design of Gawadar - Turbat road (164 km).
q Detailed design of Gujranwala-Rawalpindi Overlay Project funded by World Bank. Used in-house developed softwares for the most economical overlay design.
q Detailed design of hilly roads in Azad Kashmir (290 km).


q Feasibility and preliminary design of Provincial and National Highways for Second
Highways Project (2500 km in all provinces of Pakistan) funded by Asian development Bank. M/s Pacific Consultants (PCI) and M/s Ital Consult were the associates in the design work.
q Detailed design of 760 km of Provincial and National Highways for Second Highway
Project in all provinces of Pakistan. M/s Pacific Consultants (PCI) and Ital Consult were the associates in the design work.
q Review of design of Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway (M-1).

1990-1992:

Received full scholarship from the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok to undertake the Masters Degree in Transportation Engineering. Secured a GPA of 3.91 in 31 credit hours of course work. Got "Excellent" in the Final Thesis of 25 credit hours. Was the top student in the field of Geotechnical & Transportation Engineering during the two years of study.

1986-1990:

Worked as Senior Engineer in the Highway Department. Responsibilities included

· Reconnaissance survey of the project road for the selection of alternate alignments and preparation of reconnaissance survey report.
· Selection of final alignment from the different alternate alignments and preparation of alignment report.
· Horizontal design of major highways in plain, hilly and mountainous areas, design of superelevation, spiral and transitions for all type of roads and highways.
· Vertical design of the highways in plain, hilly and mountainous areas.
· Preparation of bill of quantities, engineer's estimates, rate analysis for road works.
· Set geometric design standards for highways according to Provincial and National Highway Standards.

During the feasibility studies, conducted the following activities:

· Preparation of road and structures inventory forms.
· Traffic Counts Surveys, O&D Surveys and Speed Surveys.
· Calculation of roadway parameters required for economic analysis.
· Prepare preliminary estimates for the highway works.

Major Projects in this period included

q Feasibility and detailed design of 184 km Hyderabad - Naushero Feroze Section and 80 km Ubauro-Rahimyar Khan Section (N-5 Highway) under World Bank IVth IBRD Highway project for National Highway Board. M/S STV Lyon Associates were the General Consultants who were responsible for the review of design.
q Supervision and review of design of 135 km Karachi-Hyderabad Additional Carriageway. PRC Inc. were the associates in the review of design.
q Link Road connecting Super Highway and National Highway (24 KM) with interchange design at N-5 for National Highway Authority (NHA).
q Detailed design of mountainous roads in Sana, Yemen Arab Republic (45 km).
q Detailed design of Coastal Highway in Salif, Yemen Arab Republic (60 km).
q Detailed design of Gul Bandai - Martung Road and Batara - Shangrai Road
in mountainous areas of NWFP funded by European Commission.

1984-1986:

Worked as Junior Engineer in the Highway Department. Responsibilities included

· Checking of levelling & traverse data, star reading, tie up of survey of Pakistan (SOP) bench marks and coordinates.
· Calculation of setting out data and vertical alignment data.
· Preparation of detailed topographic maps by digitization of plane table survey.
· Road inventory Survey of Existing Roads for rehabilitation works.
· Calculation of earthwork quantities , pavement quantities and ancillary work such as guard rails, retaining walls, kerbs, sidewalks drains, traffic signs, gantry signs.

Major Projects in this period included

q Detailed design of Tribal Roads (55 km) in mountainous areas of South Waziristan for USAID.
q Geometric Design & Report on Road Network Project of KSDP for Karachi
Development Authority (KDA).
q Design of 24 km long Surkhab - Khanozai Road for C&W Department, Government of
