Research work:
Project title: “Media optimization and fermentative production of pediocin using different strains of Pediococcus acidilactici.”
The study was undertaken to assess the feasibility of pediocin production in an economically cheaper media as compared to commercially available MRS medium. Media optimization was done using cheap substrates; molasses and corn steep liquor along with other components of MRS to obtain the maximum production at minimum cost viz. a viz. three different strains of Pediococcus acidilactici. From the results it was also inferred that the pediocin, an antimicrobial peptide has bactericidal or bacteriostatic effect on other (usually closely related) species, some of which are pathogenic including E. faecalis and Listeria monocytogens.
