Career Objective

To make a career in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Aided Designing and three dimensional modeling and being rewarded for it financially in one of the best organizations which can tap my skills and allow self expression in transforming technical concepts and drawings into a functional design.

Experience Summary

Three years experience as an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer with Flytech Aviation Academy and CAD/CAM engineer with Flytech Aviation Academy and CAD/GIS Solutions engaged in designing of 3D models from prepared engineering drawings for real-time display of end-product using ProE 2000i. Involved as 3D Modeler and instructor.

Professional Qualification

Academic

Diploma in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (Airframe and Powerplant) from Flytech Aviation Academy with first class.
Duration: 3 Years [ August 1997 to August 2000 ]

Technical

AutoCAD R14, 2000 with 2D and 3D modeling
Certification course in ProE 2000i (Sketcher, Part modeling, Surface modeling and Assembly)
Certification course in PGDCA, Windows 95/98

Nature of Experience

Flytech Aviation Academy is one of the first aviation academies in India, imparting pilot training, aircraft maintenance engineering and cabin crew training. It has a fleet of light aircrafts that are constantly maintained and ground tested after modifications/repairs. All modifications are first designed on the computer before practical implementation, giving a realistic idea on the final outcome.

CAD/GIS Solutions is the leading institute in India that is training students in CAD/CAM/CAE. It has an excellent record of projects that are completed within record time and to the full satisfaction of the clients.

Project #1 : Fuel Tank Pressure Rig
Designation : Project leader / Designer
Team Size : 4
Description : Designing of a rig from scratch for pressure testing of aircraft fuel tanks for inspecting leaks, mechanical failures and resonance/vibration damage. Machine drawings were translated into 3D models using ProE 2000i to get an accurate assessment of the end product and then fabricated. This design is currently being used in the Aviation Academy Hanger.
Responsibilities : To make 3D model from 2D drawings, fabricate the rig itself

Project #2: Engine Test Bed
Designation : 3D Designer
Team Size : 8
Description : Designing of an aircraft engine test bed for ground testing of the engine after it undergoes its mandatory overhauls over every periodical. The engine is removed from the aircraft and secured onto the Test Bed which must withstand many forces acting on it. The Test Bed was designed using ProE 2000i software and involved preparation of drawings from sketches and interpretation of technical drawings to model it in 3D for a realistic view for the benefit of the fabricators.

Project #3: Coupling to combine Aircraft oil pump with hand pump
Designation : 3D Designer
Team Size : 2

Description : The job was to devise a means to combine an aircraft oil pump with an emergency hand pump. The small coupling was complex in its design. After the initial drawings, it was then converted to a 3D image so as to better understand the operations involved. The job also involved designing the oil pump and hand pump in ProE 2000i and then assembling them with the coupling acting as a link. Technical drawings were interpreted to get a 3D model which included bearings, nuts and bolts, joints, belts and gears, cams, seals and oil cases.

Project #4: Design of Compressor and Turbine Blades and Disc of a Gas Turbine Engine
Role : 3D Designer
Team Size : 2

Description : The manufacturing process of compressor and turbine blades of a gas turbine engine is a very complicated process as it involves engineering precision of the highest degree. The angles at which the blades are machined is of utmost importance to the efficiency of the engine performance. To convey this idea properly to the students of Aeronautics, I was entrusted to design the blades, the disc and shaft in real-time 3D from machine drawings of a CFM-56 Airbus Engine. A 7-stage Gas Turbine Engine was designed with the blades assembles into their proper grooves in the disc and the discs in turn assembles onto the shaft. This design is being used to teach students the complexities and working of a Jet Engine.

Experience as a Designer and 3D Modeler

Being involved in designing and 3D modeling of products has always been a fulfilling career. Three dimensional modeling is not just a job, it is my interest as well.

My immense interest in this field drove me to teaching students full time in 3D modeling. Teaching them to convert technical and machine drawings to 3D models and vice-versa, knowledge of preparing working drawings of mechanical systems and giving the clients an accurate visual of the end product were some of my responsibilities as a designer and instructor. Having a strong mechanical background and practical knowledge enables me to have a strong foundation in 3D modeling. I let my work do the talking for me.
