STUDY Of PILE INTEGRITY INPLACE CONDITION

Purpose And Scope Of Study :- The study involves checking for the possible presence of cracks or zones of reduced cross sectional area in the piles that could raise doubts over the integrity of the piles. These purposes were accomplished by use of the transient seismic testing equipment supplied by Pile Dynamics Incorporated (PDI) of the USA.
Prior to testing, the selected piles had been cut back to sound concrete near cut level, and left with an approximately level surface. Three blows of light weight hammer were recorded and averaged on two locations along the diameter of each pile. The testing was carried out and data was stored in the pile integrity tester’s solid state memory on site. Copies of the test results were printed and attached to the report. The results show the velocity of the pile head (Y- axis) against time (X- axis). However, the time axis has been converted to length below the pile top by assuming a velocity of sound in concrete (4000 m/s). Thus any feature on the plot can be related to a depth below pile head, based on the assumed velocity. The presence of a change in cross sectional area or crack is indicated by a deviation of the plot from that for a sound or good pile. Reflections may be obtained from the tips of the piles but the magnitude of the reflections depends on the tip condition. With continuous flight auger piles in soil or porous coral the concrete at the tip is generally in intimate contact with the ground and clear tip reflections are not usually obtained. Detail report described the results of individual pile, discussion, conclusion and alternate solutions.

Study of pile integrity performed on several projects, which listed below.
