PROJECT DONE:

Ø Edible vegetable oil industry effluent treatment using reverse osmosis system carried out at Indian institute of chemical technology.
Ø The effluent obtained from the oil industry M/s Ramcharan Oil Mills ,Katedan Hyderabad is treated by using the principle of Reverse Osmosis.
Ø The principle application of reverse osmosis is Production of drinking water from brackish water and sea water.

ANALYTICAL TECHNIQUES:

The analytical techniques involved are

1.Conductometric analysis.
2.Oxygen demand analysis
1.Biological oxygen demand
2.Chemical oxygen demand
3.Dissolved oxygen
3.Sold content analysis
1.Total dissolved solids
2.Total suspended solids
3.Total solids

EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURES:
The experiment consists of three parts
1.Analysis and membrane treatment
2.Membrane separation
3.Membrane post treatment.

The study in this experiment was
1.Process variable: Keeping the feed composition constant and varying the operating pressure.
2.Feed variable: Varying the feed concentration at constant pressure.

CONCLUSION:

Reverse osmosis has been found to be a very promising alternative separation technique compared to conventional evaporation process for treatment of oil industry effluent due to higher permeate fluxes obtained along side tremendous % regulation of TDS COD BOD levels .Reverse osmosis is also economically more viable than evaporation for effluent treatment on a commercial level due to the higher rate of permeate flux generated by the former method besides absence of heat application.
