Job Description:
· Plans, develops, configures and maintains database environment
· Develops and maintains standards and procedures for database environment
· Measures and tunes database system performance
· Installs Sybase patches and upgrades, maintains release consistency across all environments
· Manages Sybase Japan vendor relationship
· Provides support to users, application programmers, systems administrators and production staff
· Diagnoses problems and determines solutions for related system and application software
· Monitors database physical capacity, message and error logs
· Develops and implements verification procedures and correction of errors
· Performs regularly scheduled database maintenance
· Develops backup and recovery procedures
· Contributes to the development and implementation of overall system management tools
· Monitors user access to production databases and database security in general
Unix Environment:
· Fujitsu M45, M1000, P200, P400
· IBM RS6000 Series
· Sun Ultra 2
· Solaris 2.7, AIX 4.3.3 (Japanese OS)
Desired Attributes:
· Knowledge of and experience with Sybase database systems operating in Solaris environments
· Demonstrable problem solving skills
· Good communication skills
· Ability to work effectively as key member of technical services team
· Japanese language skills desirable, but not essential
