Nu Skin began limited operations in China in December 1999 by opening its first branch outlet in Shanghai, China. Since then, 100 additional branch outlets and product service centers have been opened throughout China.
Nu Skin carries on its China operations in compliance with local and central government regulations. Our locally manufactured products - including the Scion line of personal care products - are sold through these 100 branch outlets and product service centers by an employed sales force.
To date, Nu Skin has invested more than $65 million in developing our infrastructure in China. This investment includes significant Research and Development resources, laboratories, and equipment located in Beijing and Shanghai. A state-of-the-art manufacturing facility located just outside of Shanghai currently manufactures Scion products sold throughout the 100 branch outlets. Our extraction facility located in Huzhou, Zhejiang province, exports raw ingredients used in the manufacturing of some of our key Pharmanex products sold around the world. In total, Nu Skin employs more than 700 local residents, including 500 employee-sales representatives who sell our Scion and other locally produced products from our 100 fixed locations.
China is a potentially enormous market and a rapid growing opportunity for Nu Skin and its distributors. Nu Skin is committed to its long-term development of the China market.
