Job Description:
Responsible for the enterprise wide infrastructure that supports the 24x7 operation of Internet systems / enterprise / Intranet / Extranet systems . Infrastructure includes but is not limited to the WAN, LAN, power, switches, routers, servers, clients, operating systems, management tools, 3rd party services, desktop application software, etc. This job requires both business maturity and technical savvy, with a keen sense of how to do tradeoffs between technical possibilities and what is really required to do the job. Most important, the person must be a leader, able to inspire bursts of ingenuity for problem solving, and a sense of dedication and pride from every member of the team.
Responsibilities (definitely not limited to this list):
· Design cost-effective, scalable, fault-tolerant, high-performance architecture for Internet systems [24x7], and also the enterprise, Intranet, Extranet systems.
· Research new approaches to significantly improve performance and site capacity.
· Analyze the tradeoffs between cost, performance, reliability and quality from both a business and technical perspective
· Develop a budget, and manage operations to a budget, by coaching technical staff, and close monitoring of expenditures.
· Supervise and participate in on-call rotation
· Manage relationship with co-location provider (Exodus)
· Manage vendor relationships for critical hardware and software
· Monitor mission-critical Internet site, and the enterprise/Intranet/Extranet site for performance and availability
· Research, evaluate, select, or approve software and hardware
· Work and communicate with technical and non-technical coworkers
· Experience developing web applications helpful but not required
· Investigate new opportunities to optimize performance and site capacity
· Domain registrations and Verisign digital certificates
· Minimize disruption and ensure smooth transitions for upgrades and changes
Experience Requirements:
Experience with the following required:
· Managing a high-traffic commercial Internet site (over 500,000 page views/day)
· Managing a enterprise wide site, and desirably a Intranet / Extranet capability.
· TCP/IP
· Windows NT 4.0
· IIS
· SMTP, DNS
· Microsoft Office
Desired experience:
· Dell PowerEdge Servers. Cisco routers and switches, Check Point Firewall, Log file/traffic analysis. SQL Server.
Education:
Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a related field is desirable.
