Improving the Processing of Waste Streams from Wine and Fruit Production to Give High-Value Products
The aim of this project is to optimise the processes of extraction and spray drying as applied to the treatment of wine and fruit waste effluent streams. Food Ingredients Technologies Australia Pty Ltd, the company involved with this project, has developed technology to obtain potentially high-value liquid extracts from wine and fruit wastes for health products and food colourings. Previous collaborative work with our research group has shown that spray drying can produce compact powder products of good quality. The expected outcomes are the required fundamental understanding of how processing conditions affect final product properties, and the way in which the extraction and spray drying technologies should be integrated.
Our research group has extensive experience in the area of spray drying food products in particular and spray drying research more generally.
Experimental skills are essential for this project, together with skills in computer programming.
A good honours degree in chemical or mechanical engineering or chemistry or physics is required.
It is also a requirement that you be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
The scholarship is currently valued at $21,080 p.a. (Australian Postgraduate Award Priority rate) for up to three years. Supplementation may be available for suitable candidates.
