Dear Mr President of China

I am appalled to learn of the barbaric treatment of bears, kept for their bile at farms in China. The findings of WSPA prove that bear farming can never be justified.

This industry is a disgrace to your country. Please show that you are a great leader and take action to close all bear farms as soon as possible.

Should the 2008 Olympics really be held in the Dark Ages?
These practices are nothing less than medieval. But they're not only cruel, they're pointless. There are many highly effective herbal and synthetic alternatives to bear bile available on the market. However, the Chinese government still refuses to put an end to the suffering and ban bear bile farms for good. Yet ironically, Beijing has been chosen to stage the 2008 Olympic Games - games that are supposed to be the ultimate symbol of a spirit of humanity. We desperately want to eradicate these terrible institutions before then. WSPA is determined to use the forthcoming Olympic Games as a spotlight on China to bring about the end of this cruel practice. And we need your help to do it.

What upsets me is not so much that people capable of such cruelty exist in
China (they exist in every country) but that there are so few Chinese people coming forward to stand on the side of the animals....
